Summary

Like the Flowing River is an intimate collection of Paulo Coelho's reflections and short stories written from 1998 to 2005。 These are powerful tales of living and dying, of destiny and choice, of love lost and found。 Sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, but always profound, this book, like all of Coelho's work, explores what it means to be truly alive。

Everyone has known Paulo Coelho from his bestseller book "The Alchemist” which is about motivation, that dreams are achievable if you believe in them。On the other hand, Like the flowing river is a collection of Coelho's stories and articles that were published in the newspapers。This book is definitely one of Coelho's best for me as it contains his thoughts and reflections on different things that happens in day to day life。From the story of pencil to a piece of bread that fell on a wrong side, I Everyone has known Paulo Coelho from his bestseller book "The Alchemist” which is about motivation, that dreams are achievable if you believe in them。On the other hand, Like the flowing river is a collection of Coelho's stories and articles that were published in the newspapers。This book is definitely one of Coelho's best for me as it contains his thoughts and reflections on different things that happens in day to day life。From the story of pencil to a piece of bread that fell on a wrong side, I am amused at how he sees the universe in a simplest way。The words from the book are very simple and day to day vocabulary used so that the message goes out loud and clear to every reader。It is a collection of stories which are interesting, entertaining, mostly light but at times profound and makes it overall an enjoyable read!I would like to quote one of the many good lines from the book here at the end。"Two roads diverged in the woods,I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference。" 。。。more

“It is part of the human nature always to judge others very severely and, when the wind turns against us,always to find an excuse for our own misdeeds,or to blame someone else for our mistakes。”Beautifully written and insightful

This book talks about the different dimensions of people's reflections and how they react or respond to that。 There are so many stories and incidents exhibiting differnet faces that we individually come across but never gave any chance to become a part of ourselves。"Like the Flowing river" is not a book which will only give you lessons or a kind of daily pedagogical courses but in each and every step readers will get a touch of musing and also understanding the quality of life。 This book gave me This book talks about the different dimensions of people's reflections and how they react or respond to that。 There are so many stories and incidents exhibiting differnet faces that we individually come across but never gave any chance to become a part of ourselves。"Like the Flowing river" is not a book which will only give you lessons or a kind of daily pedagogical courses but in each and every step readers will get a touch of musing and also understanding the quality of life。 This book gave me a lot as after reading this my life took a different turn and also today before going to bed I atleast read one story in order to compete with a healthy morning。Our author"Paulo Coelho", is not only a person who writes for the sake of writing since he is magical 。 He deliberately knows the way of discovering people and inventing them like themselves only。 。。。more

The kidnapping was very lightly referred to in one story。 So I felt this book wasn’t fully authentic。 The author held back on the most painful and perhaps the most meaningful (to him) stories that would have created an emotional reaction in the reader。 As it was the stories were light, much like his novels, they were gently flowing like the meandering river。。。。https://chroniclesoftania。wordpress。c。。。 The kidnapping was very lightly referred to in one story。 So I felt this book wasn’t fully authentic。 The author held back on the most painful and perhaps the most meaningful (to him) stories that would have created an emotional reaction in the reader。 As it was the stories were light, much like his novels, they were gently flowing like the meandering river。。。。https://chroniclesoftania。wordpress。c。。。 。。。more

I was a huge fan of Paulo Coelho until he started preaching in his books。 His books "The Alchemist" , "Eleven Minutes", "Veronica Decides to Die" and "Adultery" are entertaining and have beautiful philosophical messages 。The first book I hated was "Manuscript Found in Accra"。 I hate preachers and people who are just trying to spread the word of God。 A writer has to be neutral。 A writer needs to understand that the reader needs to be entertained。 This book is a mixed bag。 A few short stories like I was a huge fan of Paulo Coelho until he started preaching in his books。 His books "The Alchemist" , "Eleven Minutes", "Veronica Decides to Die" and "Adultery" are entertaining and have beautiful philosophical messages 。The first book I hated was "Manuscript Found in Accra"。 I hate preachers and people who are just trying to spread the word of God。 A writer has to be neutral。 A writer needs to understand that the reader needs to be entertained。 This book is a mixed bag。 A few short stories like "The Story of a pencil"。 "A Visitor from Morocco" etc are good。 But he gets to preaching in a few of them and that puts me off。 。。。more

Always a delight to read his books。 This book particularly is a collection of short tales concerning philosophy, real life incidences and spiritual search。 Every story has a strong message to give。

perfect for an long dawdling commute。 coelho is that old wise ass writer who's travelled every inch of the world and knows how to give advice。 some of his experiences and viewpoints are。。。meh, mediocre, inapplicable to workaday events but we all stan a weathered owl, especially when sit with next to a hearth in winter。 perfect for an long dawdling commute。 coelho is that old wise ass writer who's travelled every inch of the world and knows how to give advice。 some of his experiences and viewpoints are。。。meh, mediocre, inapplicable to workaday events but we all stan a weathered owl, especially when sit with next to a hearth in winter。 。。。more

It is basically the compilation of author’s short stories, his reflections and thoughts。 It is filled with great insights and descriptions of general principles of love, luck, learning and life。The thing I like the most about this book is that it is a quick read and since the chapters aren’t related with each other, you can chose any chapter first。 It doesn’t need to be in order。 And the other thing that I like about this book and other books written by Paulo in general is that his books are alw It is basically the compilation of author’s short stories, his reflections and thoughts。 It is filled with great insights and descriptions of general principles of love, luck, learning and life。The thing I like the most about this book is that it is a quick read and since the chapters aren’t related with each other, you can chose any chapter first。 It doesn’t need to be in order。 And the other thing that I like about this book and other books written by Paulo in general is that his books are always filled with philosophical and thought-provoking words which makes his books worth reading。 。。。more

It's my first and best fiction/philosophy book I've ever read till now! I have even made a list of my favorite chapters from the book。 I like Paulo Coelho's simple, powerful, and concise writing。 There are various insights about human life, small things in life which I will take away from this book。 Definitely worth reading! Like most of Paulo's reads this one also leaves the reader to ponder over simple things/instances in day today life。 Though this one is different as it is not a continued story but collection of philosophical thoughts on specific incidents。 3。5* from my side👍 Like most of Paulo's reads this one also leaves the reader to ponder over simple things/instances in day today life。 Though this one is different as it is not a continued story but collection of philosophical thoughts on specific incidents。 3。5* from my side👍 。。。more

Another Paulo Coelho classic! I absolutely loved this book of reflections that Coelho wrote over the period of a few years。 I sipped through their stories one by one, like enjoying a fine wine or whiskey。 They made me think and really influenced my early 20 years。 Highly recommend this book to Paulo Coelho fans and anything who is philosophically inclined。
